The Italian Prime Minister did not take part in the summit in the Balkans because of disputes with EU leaders on the Ukrainian issue. It is reported by La Repubblica.
According to the publication, Giorgia Meloni was absent from several meetings due to the fact that Italy did not participate in coordinating the actions of France, Germany and the UK with Ukraine before the planned negotiations with Russia.
Meloni turned out to be the only major figure from the EU who did not take part in the EU—Balkans summit, which was held in Tivat. At this event, in particular, the prospects for the development of the region and Ukraine were considered.
The official reason for refusing to participate in the summit was participation in a ceremony dedicated to the anniversary of the founding of the Carabinieri corps.
On June 3, La Repubblica reported that Italy was preventing Ukraine from joining the European Union. According to Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, the admission of Ukrainian citizens to the EU raises serious concerns, as it may provoke a crisis in the country's agriculture.
