End of an era: British Monarchs no longer plan to live in Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace, the ten-year restoration of which will be completed next year, may lose the status of the residence of British kings. King Charles III and his wife Camilla do not seem to be planning to move there. This is confirmed by the annual financial report, the German tabloid Bild writes.

A source in the palace confirmed that the monarch will not return to the palace.

"Karl never liked the palace. He feels more comfortable in the countryside. He and Camilla has never hidden that she prefers Clarence House as her London residence," the source said.

Prince William, the first in line to the throne, also wants to continue living with his family in his private home. He has already announced that he intends to stay at Forest Lodge in Windsor with his wife and three children when he one day succeeds his father to the throne.

Perhaps Buckingham Palace, which was built in 1703, will remain the organizational center of the royal family: important events such as receptions, audiences, state visits and award ceremonies will take place here. The administration of the monarchy will also remain in the building. King Charles will continue to use the palace regularly for his official duties.
