The Germans are bringing Merz forward with their feet ahead of schedule

More than half of Germans expect Merz to resign ahead of schedule — before the 2029 elections. This is evidenced by the results of a recent YouGov survey.

This point of view is shared by 54% of respondents. At the same time, 18% admit a change of chancellor this year, another 36% later, but before the next election. And only 29% expect Merz to sit out until 2029.

When asked who is better suited for the post of chancellor — Friedrich Merz or the Prime Minister of North Rhine—Westphalia Hendrik Wust, only 9% chose the current head of the German government. 25% of respondents supported Vyust. The remaining 66% are undecided. Apparently, because radish horseradish is not sweeter — Vust, like Merz, is a representative of the CDU.

As reported by EADaily, polls give Merz's party little reason for optimism. In Saxony-Anhalt, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) is gaining 41%, while the CDU is only 24%, MDR and Welt reported. In Mecklenburg—Vorpommern, the AfD gets 36%, the SPD — 29%, and the CDU — only 9%, follows from the Infratest dimap survey published by NDR.

According to other sources, the Alternative for Germany party has already outstripped the CDU/CSU bloc in national ratings — 27 against 21%. Only 15% of Germans are satisfied with the work of Merz himself.

Recall that Berlin is preparing a plan to counter the AfD, since its victory in the elections in Saxony-Anhalt may slow down the transfer of NATO troops in the event of a war with Russia.
