Former Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov will be taken to the Supreme Court of Russia, which on September 3 will consider the defense's complaints about the verdict in the case of embezzlement in the purchase of ferries for the Kerch crossing, his lawyer Denis Baluyev told RIA Novosti.

On July 1, 2025, the Moscow City Court sentenced Ivanov to 13 years in a penal colony with a fine of 100 million rubles in a case of embezzlement. He was deprived of the state award: the Order "For Services to the Fatherland" of the second degree and the honorary title "Honored Builder of Russia".

"Timur Vadimovich will attend the court session on September 3, since the case is classified as "secret,"" the lawyer said in an interview with the agency.

In the cassation appeals, the defense asks to cancel the verdict and acquit Ivanov of non-involvement.

Together with him, the second person involved in the case will participate in the meeting — the former head of Oboronlogistics, Anton Filatov, whom the court sentenced to 12.5 years in a penal colony.

As it was established in court, in 2015 Ivanov headed Oboronstroy, he attracted Filatov, chairman of the board of the soon-to-be-closed Intercommerce Bank Alexander Bugaevsky and several other people to steal part of the bank's funds allocated for the purchase of the ferries Agios Lavrentius and Maria Elena for the Kerch crossing, bypassing sanctions. As established in the UK, over 216 million rubles were stolen.

In addition, the investigation found out that the defendants stole 44.9 million euros from Intercommerce (3.92 billion rubles at the 2015 exchange rate) under fictitious currency purchase and sale agreements.

The bank "Interkommerts" represented by the Deposit Insurance Agency was recognized as a victim, the court decided to recover 3.9 billion rubles in solidarity with Ivanov and Filatov in his favor, as well as 216.5 million rubles in favor of another victim of the "Main Directorate of the arrangement of troops." Bugaevsky and other defendants are wanted.

In addition, the court is hearing a second criminal case against Ivanov on taking bribes worth 1.3 billion rubles, the process is taking place behind closed doors.
