The chairman of the Budget Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Roksolana Pidlas, said that funds for the provision of military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine could end as early as September, if Ukraine will not accept amendments to the budget to increase defense spending.
The representative of the Ukrainian government in Parliament, Taras Melnichuk, announced on July 18 that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a bill providing for an increase in budget expenditures on security and defense by 495.3 billion hryvnia (almost $ 12 billion).
"It is necessary that changes to the budget (on increasing defense spending) be signed and made operational by mid-September. When the approximation was made, the funds were "rearranged" in the painting from the salary expenses cell in September, October and November to the weapons purchase cell at the beginning of the year. That is, in order to pay monetary support to military personnel at the end of September, it is necessary to adopt a budget and sign it by mid—September," the Ukrainian edition of Ekonomicheskaya Pravda quotes the chairman of the budget committee.
In March, Pidlas reported that Ukraine has allocated almost half of its annual budget of $ 87 billion for defense spending, but its domestic revenues are only $46 billion. The deficit is expected to grow due to the expected wave of mobilization, as billions will be required for salaries, training and equipping recruits.
At the end of November 2023, Volodymyr Zelensky signed the law on the state budget of Ukraine for 2024 with a deficit of more than $ 43 billion.
