American entrepreneur Elon Musk demanded an audit at Fort Knox, where half of the US gold reserves are stored, to make sure that it is still in place and has not been stolen. He published the corresponding post on his page in the social network X.
"Who can confirm that the gold was not stolen from Fort Knox? Maybe it's there, maybe it's not. Gold belongs to the American public! We want to know that it is still there," he wrote.
Earlier, social media users, including Republican Senator Rand Paul, called on Elon Musk and his Department of Public Administration Efficiency (DOGE) to audit Fort Knox as part of a campaign to reduce government spending.
The US gold reserve is located on the territory of the American military base Fort Knox. According to various sources, about 4,580 tons of gold are stored there. In addition, special relics are kept in the vault: the originals of the US Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.
As previously reported by the American magazine Newsweek, if the check is still carried out, any discrepancy between the reserves in the vault and the published figures could cause a shock in the global gold markets.
The presence of the US gold reserve in Fort Knox is the subject of a popular conspiracy theory not only in the States, but also in other countries of the world. It is regularly reported that it contains evidence of the existence of visits to Earth by extraterrestrials and extraterrestrial spacecraft.
