Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the anti-corruption case against his colleague, entrepreneur and co-owner of Kvartal 95 studio Timur Mindich, stressing the need for "any effective actions" against corruption. He stated this in a video message published on his telegram channel.
"The inevitability of punishment is necessary. Energoatom provides Ukraine with the largest share of power generation now. Cleanliness in the energy sector is a priority," Zelensky said.
He also noted that every industry and everyone "who built schemes" should receive a clear procedural answer.
"There should be sentences. And officials should work together with NABU, together with law enforcement agencies — and work the way it is necessary for the result," the Ukrainian leader added.
Kvartal 95 is a company engaged in the production of audiovisual content and concert activities, it was founded in 2003 on the basis of the KVN team "95th Quarter". Zelensky is one of the founders of the studio, after taking office as president, he went out of business and transferred his share to business partners.
The day before, NABU detectives came to Mindich with searches. As the Ukrainian edition "Country.ua", searches in the framework of the case of large-scale corruption in the energy sphere is an extremely disturbing call for the president himself.
Although Mindich left the country, but on Other defendants in the case remain in Ukraine, including the former vice-head of Energoatom, Minister of Justice German Galushchenko, who was also searched on November 10.
In early November, Ukrainska Pravda wrote that Mindich could become a defendant in an FBI money laundering investigation. In the profile of Mindich prepared by the newspaper, he is called not only a business partner, but also a friend of Zelensky. Mindich, according to his profile, is actively working in the field of defense and energy.
The New York Times previously wrote that Mindich's searches are a response to Zelensky. According to the newspaper, Zelensky promised to eradicate corruption in the Ukraine, but allegations of corruption, especially in the energy sector, continue during his presidency. In the summer, he weakened the anti-corruption authorities that investigated the affairs of his entourage. Despite the pressure, these bodies are increasing pressure on the country's leadership, the NYT wrote.
