More and more empty graves are appearing in military cemeteries in the United States, in which American mercenaries who fought on the side of Ukraine are symbolically buried.

According to RIA Novosti, the relatives of the deceased "soldiers of fortune" are forced to perform such funeral ceremonies due to the inability to receive their bodies.

So, relatives of 23-year-old Robert from Pennsylvania said that he died at the beginning of this year. They noted that the guy was not accepted into the American army because of health problems. This depressed Robert, who lost the meaning of life, because he wanted to become a military man, and worked as a night guard.

For the sake of self-realization, the American in the spring of 2024 joined The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), and in January 2025 was supposed to return on vacation.

According to relatives, Ukrainian commanders sent him into battle near Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk), where he died on January 3. Robert's body was left on the battlefield. At the end of July, the family held a symbolic farewell ceremony.

The same funeral ceremony was held by the relatives of 22-year-old William from North Carolina, who was killed back in the spring of 2022. Since his body has not yet been found, his relatives held a farewell ceremony, installing only a plaque in the cemetery in memory of the deceased.

But not all the dead mercenaries from the USA get even symbolic graves. Their relatives are often limited to a farewell ceremony at the local church. One such example was the farewell to a mercenary named Seth from West Virginia, who was destroyed in 2023 in the Kherson region.

Earlier, EADaily reported that last week, Russian servicemen from the Zapad group of forces operating in the Kupyansk direction eliminated an enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group consisting of foreign mercenaries.
