Iran has supplied Russia with ballistic and anti-aircraft missiles worth about $ 2.7 billion, Bloomberg reports, citing a Western official dealing with security issues.

According to the agency, contracts for the supply of weapons were concluded in October 2021 — a few months before the start of Russia's SMO on Ukraine. According to the official, the purchases included hundreds of Fath-360 short—range ballistic missiles, almost 500 other short-range ballistic missiles, as well as about 200 surface-to-air missiles for air defense systems.

"In addition, Tehran has supplied Moscow with millions of ammunition and artillery shells," the publication says.

It indicates that the Iranian authorities have also transferred the Shahed-136 kamikaze drones and the technology for their production, which made it possible to produce drones on Russian territory under the name Geranium-2. The cost of the drone contract signed in early 2023 amounted to $ 1.75 billion.

"In general, Russia has spent more than $ 4 billion on Iranian weapons since the end of 2021 and expects additional shipments of weapons to arrive in the near future," the source told Bloomberg.

EADaily reminds that on January 17, 2025, Russian and Iranian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Masoud Pezeshkian signed a bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement following talks in Moscow. A third of the document is devoted to issues of bilateral military-technical cooperation and international security. In a separate paragraph, Moscow and Tehran prescribed that they would contribute to "strengthening peace and security in the Caspian region, Central Asia, Transcaucasia, and the Middle East" and cooperate to prevent "interference in these regions and the destabilizing presence of third states there."

EADaily adds that earlier today, The New York Times newspaper, citing sources, noted that Washington considers cyber attacks and strikes on Iran's internal security apparatus as the most likely options for influencing Iran. The Pentagon also proposes to influence Tehran by manipulating Iran's nuclear program, as well as hitting ballistic missile targets.

The virtual US Embassy in the Islamic Republic has issued an appeal to those in In Iran, Americans "immediately" leave this country. The diplomatic mission pointed to the intensifying protests in Iran, warning that they "could escalate into clashes leading to arrests and injuries."

The embassy issued a similar order on June 16, 2025, after which the United States attacked nuclear facilities in Iran.

White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said on January 12 that US President Donald Trump would not be afraid to use American military force against Iran if circumstances required it.
