Refugees from Ukraine who arrived in Germany after April 1, 2025, will have to hurry to find a job after the cancellation of their basic social security allowance. This was stated by the Minister of Labor of Germany Barbel Bas.
The Bas statement was made in connection with the consideration in the Bundestag of a draft law on the abolition of the basic social allowance of the Bürgergeld for refugees from Ukraine who arrived in Germany after April 1, 2025 and the payment of a smaller allowance for asylum seekers. The relevant bill was previously approved by the German government.
"Those who can work should make an effort to find a job as soon as possible. At the same time, employment agencies, of course, can provide support and consulting assistance," Bas said.
According to her, the abolition of basic social benefits for newly arrived Ukrainian refugees in Germany will mean a change of legal status for them.
"At the same time, the transition from basic security to benefits for asylum seekers is organized in such a way that no one experiences an excessive burden: neither those who fall under the new standards, nor municipalities, nor employment centers," she said.
Recall, after the start of the conflict on More than 1.2 million Ukrainian citizens have entered Germany in Ukraine. At the same time, according to the Federal employment Agency for November, only about 360 thousand of them are employed. According to the German Ministry of Social Security, about 6.4 billion euros were spent on basic social security for Ukrainian refugees in 2024.
