Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev expressed outrage at the conditions put forward by the United States for concluding a new Strategic and Offensive Arms Treaty (START Treaty), urging the administration of Donald Trump to be honest.

"The US State Department called the START-3 treaty "imperfect" because it does not cover tactical nuclear weapons and does not include China. Seriously? What about the UK and France? Hypersonic weapons?" — the politician was indignant in X.
"Washington's statement means one thing: there will never be an agreement on such terms. Be honest!" — he called.

EADaily adds that US Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Thomas Dinanno, speaking today at the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, said that the termination of the START treaty (February 5) would allow the United States to modernize its nuclear forces, as well as take parallel steps with other countries in expanding nuclear deterrence capabilities.

The START Treaty, the last of the international legal restrictions on the deployment of nuclear weapons, expired the day before. Washington did not want to extend it. US President Donald Trump said he expects to conclude the "best document" by extending it to China. China has never even confirmed its intention to negotiate on limiting its nuclear forces, since they lag far behind the United States and Russia.
