The European Parliament is convening an emergency meeting on a trade agreement with the United States after the Supreme Court's decision to abolish Donald Trump's global tariffs. It is reported by the Bloomberg news agency.
It is noted that the meeting is scheduled for Monday.
Earlier it was expected that on Tuesday the European Parliament's trade committee would vote to continue the ratification process of the US-EU trade agreement. But after the decision of the US Supreme Court, the head of the committee, Bernd Lange, wrote on social networks that "now we must carefully evaluate" this decision and "analyze the possible consequences for the ongoing work" on the ratification of the document.
"The decision of the Supreme Court was expected. The legal basis for unreasonable tariffs was wrong," Bernd told Bloomberg.
It is noted that the European Parliament planned to ratify the trade agreement with the United States in March. Today's court decision called into question both this deadline and the agreement itself, "given the uncertain legal status of Trump's tariffs."
As reported by EADaily, the US Supreme Court overturned most of the global tariffs imposed by Donald Trump. This was reported by The Washington Post.
