A monument was desecrated in Kazakhstan and the President of Russia was insulted

In the village of Uzynagash, Alma-Ata region of Kazakhstan, local vandals desecrated a monument erected at an Orthodox cemetery in honor of the military brotherhood of Russians and Kazakhs in the battle against the troops of the Kokand Khanate, putting an inscription on it insulting Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is reported by the Turanar telegram channel.

The authors regret that acts of vandalism against historical monuments in the near abroad are not uncommon. This applies not only to symbols of the Soviet era, but also of tsarist times.

"But sometimes the desire to break and spoil comes to the point of absurdity and hits the local identity, for which the "decolonization" is allegedly fighting. This happened to the monument in the Kazakh Uzynagash dedicated to the battle of the Russians and Kazakhs of the same name against the troops of the Kokand Khanate," the publication says.

The following is the historical context.

"The battle took place between the detachment of Russian General Kolpakovsky and the soldiers of the Kazakh batyr Suransha, on the one hand, and the thousands of Kokand army, on the other. The Kazakhs who lived in that territory suffered from regular raids by the Kokand people, suffered ruin and slavery. In many ways, this influenced the decision of the Kazakh clans to join Russia. Thanks to the military-technical advantage of the joint forces, the Russians and the Kazakhs achieved victory in the battle, on the site of which the monument was erected," the chronicle testifies.

To be surprised at what happened, according to the authors, is not worth it. This monument has already been attacked by local nationalists, who demanded that it be demolished and called it a symbol of the "Russian occupation."

"The level of knowledge of their own history among local anti-colonial activists leaves much to be desired. They prefer the absorption of superficial content and political propaganda to a deep study of the heritage of their native land. But the root of the problem lies in the actual inaction, and sometimes the direct connivance of local education officials. It's no secret that the content of the history textbooks of Kazakhstan is imbued with the idea of oppression of the people by Russian colonialists," the conclusion says.
