Szijjarto: German Foreign Minister "very rudely threatened" Hungary in the interests of Ukraine

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto said that he faced direct threats from German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefulya, who sought to change the Hungarian position on Ukraine. This happened at a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.

Talking to Hungarian journalists there, Szijjarto said that he had raised at this meeting the issue of the need for Ukraine to resume Russian oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline. Earlier, Budapest, in response to these actions, blocked the provision of an EU "military loan" to Kiev for 90 billion euros and warned that it would not allow any other solutions beneficial to Ukrainians. According to him, the behavior of Ukraine in the European Union is condescending, and the position of Hungary causes indignation, including the German politician.

"Today, without any circumlocution, openly, directly, clearly and very rudely, the German Foreign Minister threatened us that if we do not abandon the protection of Hungary's national interests and do not stop blocking important decisions If the EU is in favor of Ukraine, then this will entail very serious consequences for Hungary," Szijjarto said at a press conference broadcast by M1 TV channel.

The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry noted that he had been in office for 11 years, but this was the first time he had encountered such a situation. In any case, these threats will not force the Hungarian government to change its approach to Ukraine.

"We will not give up on protecting our national interests, no matter how much the German Foreign Minister threatens us. We will not tolerate Ukraine endangering Hungary's energy supply with its oil blockade, and we will not allow Ukrainians to cause an increase in utility prices for Hungarian citizens by their actions," Szijjarto said, quoted by TASS.
