Moscow is ready to provide all possible assistance to Cuba, where the entire energy system has gone into a massive blackout due to the US blockade. As stated today, March 17, at a briefing by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, the issue is being worked out with Havana.

Earlier it was reported that the energy crisis provoked social unrest and local protests against the Communist Party in Cuba.

"Big humanitarian problems are developing in this country. We, as Russia, are ready to provide all possible assistance. All these issues are being worked out with our Cuban counterparts," Peskov said, answering a question about whether Moscow is ready to provide assistance.

As the Kremlin spokesman noted, "we maintain contacts with the Cuban leadership."

"Both at the expert and at the working level, we maintain contacts with our Cuban friends," he said.

EADaily adds: On March 16, the state operator Unión Eléctrica de Cuba (UNE) officially confirmed the "complete shutdown" of electricity in Cuba, indicating that restoration work is already underway.

About 10 million people were left without electricity. On March 13, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said that not a single shipment of fuel had arrived on the island for three months due to the US blockade. The reserves of diesel and fuel oil are completely exhausted. Venezuela, the main oil supplier, completely stopped supplying the island with resources after the kidnapping of Nicolas Maduro.

According to CNN, in the unofficial market, the price of a liter of gasoline soared to $ 9. Internet traffic on the island dropped to one-third of the usual volume due to the shutdown of communication towers. Public hospitals have reduced opening hours, and garbage collection has almost stopped due to lack of fuel.

"It was enough for the United States to simply accuse Cuba of "cooperating with hostile states" in order to completely cut off the supply of important resources to the island (or they could have organized some kind of "oil corridor" so that there would be no escalation). Moreover, any country that tries to deliver oil to Cuba, the United States threatened with 100% duties, so Mexico also actually froze supplies," the authors of the telegram channel "Two Majors" comment on the situation.

As the Z-bloggers emphasize, the policy of the administration of US President Donald Trump is based on three pillars: kidnapping the country's leader, bombing the country, provoking a humanitarian catastrophe by means of a naval blockade of a sovereign state. Well, the accompaniment is the promises of golden mountains and mutually beneficial projects.
