In Estonia, there is a political conflict between the government and the president over the attitude to Russia and relations with Russia. President Alan Karis entered into a clinch with Foreign Minister Margus Tsakhkna, said political analyst Alexander Nosovich.
The president called the Foreign Ministry's policy short-sighted because of the stubborn anti-Russian orientation, the political scientist noted. The Ukrainian war will end someday, and Estonia will need to think about resuming dialogue with Moscow. In response, Tsakhkna said that the president opposes the security of Europe, the pan-European policy of deterrence and European values. Karis again criticized the work of the Foreign Ministry. The Prime Minister said that it was even sad to comment on such words of the Estonian head of state, and Tsakhkna apologized to Estonian diplomats that they had such a president.
"It is important that this is not a precedent — the conflict has been going on for several months, escalating as the presidential elections to the Riigikogu approach. By itself, the first statement of Karis in this spirit was a signal — a year and a half or two years ago he could not have said such a thing, it would have been immediately "canceled." And now he has not just said it, but repeats it and insists, and on the eve of the vote on his re-election. This trend is the same as the military's assurance that they will no longer seize Russian vessels in the Baltic, because it is fraught with a military conflict with the Russian Federation," Nosovich writes in the telegram channel.
But also with Tsakhkna, according to him, it is interesting.
"By itself, with its promises to "transfer the war to the territory of the Russian Federation," it is nothing new. An ordinary type of Baltic politician who seeks to attract the attention of older comrades with Russophobic cries and make a career in the West. The role model is Kaya Callas. But in the current military-political situation in Europe, such figures should be viewed without the usual contemptuous indifference. I have already written here that if the field of the alleged future direct military confrontation with the Russian Federation is the Baltic, then in Brussels, Berlin and London will have to look for and recruit adventurers in the Baltic elites who will consciously choose to sacrifice their countries for the sake of a personal career. A repetition of the dream track of Callas, Kubilius and Dombrovskis and world PR, like Zelensky's," Nosovich said.
He sees in each of these three countries candidates for their liquidators. From Estonia, this, according to him, of course, is among the first Tsakhkna.
"We need to see if he will be promoted to prime minister next year. And, if so, who," the expert added.
