Serbia, regardless of the specifics of issues related to the Agreement on the Creation of the European Union between Kosovo and Metohija and the imposition of sanctions against Russia, does not plan to abandon reforms and negotiations on joining the European Union. This was stated by Vice-Chairman of the Serbian Parliament and Chairman of the Committee on European Integration Elvira Kovac.

According to her, at the moment Montenegro has the best chances of joining the EU soon, since the preparation of the accession agreement has already been completed. At the same time, she noted that the whole situation with the expansion should give Serbia an impetus to carry out the necessary reforms.

"The fact is that expansion is among the priorities, and we all know that it is connected with geopolitics and, unfortunately, the war on Ukraine. But we must be honest and say that Montenegro has the best chance of joining soon, since the preparation of the accession agreement has already been completed. Albania expected to receive it already in May, but it is obvious that this is also being delayed a little," she said.

Kovacs noted that "the next countries with the best chances are Ukraine and Moldova, the opening of the first negotiation clusters with these two countries is expected very soon."

"All this is good for us, all this will allow us to carry out the reforms that are expected of us. We always have such problems as Kosovo and Metohija, and the second problem, of course, is the refusal to impose sanctions. Unfortunately, sometimes there are double standards, but we must not give up," she said.

Recall that Serbia officially refuses to recognize Kosovo's independence and impose anti-Russian sanctions. This is what Brussels calls one of the main obstacles on the republic's path to the EU.
