Chinese President Xi Jinping acted as a personal tour guide for US President Donald Trump during an inspection of the Zhongnanhai residence, mentioning Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
According to The New York Times (NYT), the Chinese leader was partly provoked by Trump himself. He interrupted the tour to ask if Xi often brings foreign leaders to Zhongnanhai.
"Very rarely. For example, Putin was here," Xi replied, shaking his head for persuasiveness.
According to the author of the material, this seemingly casual conversation should be taken as evidence of the confrontation between Washington and Beijing.
"A casual conversation between President Trump and Chinese Leader Xi Jinping on Friday provided a glimpse into how the two leaders interacted this week, maneuvering through the rivalry between their countries," the publication says.
Earlier, EADaily reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping offered the United States assistance in ensuring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing conflict around Iran.
