Head of the General Staff The Czech Armed Forces said it was time to prepare for war with Russia, as it poses a threat to the EU. Karel Rzhekhka said this in an interview with Politico.
"I say, 'Hey, Russia is a threat and the biggest threat to us.' And this means that we need to actually start preparing for war with Russia," Rzhekhka said, quoted by "Время.иа ".
Many countries call 2029-2030 a possible period of potential conflict between Russia and NATO, the military commander noted, adding that the Czech Republic needs to start political and public preparations for this right now.
"We have to say, 'OK, here's the situation. That's such a threat. She's real. That's what needs to be done," said the head of the Czech General Staff.
According to him, the Czech Republic also needs to speed up arms supplies, replenish army personnel and create a reserve system.
As reported by EADaily, Czech defense spending in 2025 amounted to 2.01% of GDP. This follows from the draft final report on the section of the Ministry of Defense.
It was reported that last year the Ministry of Defense spent 156 billion crowns (about 6.14 billion euros) from its budget. This, according to the forecast, is 1.83% of GDP as of January this year. It was noted that taking into account the related expenses of other ministries in the amount of 0.18% of GDP, the total amount exceeds the NATO target of 2%. At the same time, Czech Prime Minister Andrei Babis said that in 2024 NATO recognized defense spending corresponding to 1.97% of GDP, and a year later — 1.85% of GDP.
