The states of the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance are preparing for a scenario in which they will have to enter into an armed conflict with Russia and Belarus.

This is reported by Politico, citing its own sources in Finland, Lithuania and Poland. The NATO leadership believes that at first, these countries will have to "repel aggression" alone.

According to the agency, accelerated militarization is taking place on the eastern border of Europe. This is due, among other things, to the growing doubts of Europeans about the help of the United States.

Finland is cited as an example. It is developing a model of "total defense", within the framework of which it is planned to mobilize almost 870 thousand reservists with a population of 5.6 million people.

Earlier, EADaily reported that Sweden is preparing for Russia's invasion of the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. Hundreds of conscripts have been sent to a military base near the main city of Visby Island as part of the hasty remilitarization of Gotland.
