Azarov: Trump fell for the bait in the issue of rare earth metals from Ukraine

Statement by US President Donald Trump about his interest in gaining access to rare earth metal deposits at In Ukraine, they are populist.

This conclusion is made in his Telegram channel by former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov. He notes that it is better to ask Trump himself about Trump's plans to take rare earth metals in Ukraine.

The politician also points out that real information should be separated from artificially created sensations. In reality on Ukraine really has a large Shevchenko lithium deposit, which was discovered in Soviet times, in 1982.

At the same time, Ukraine itself has not started developing this field for all 50 years after its discovery. And this is despite the fact that at a certain period lithium was in great demand on the world market.

"Trump is more of a showman, he works for the public. Before that, he wanted to take Greenland. Probably, someone also told him that Greenland is a huge piece of land, which means there are definitely some natural resources there," Nikolai Yanovich says ironically.

He suggests that the American president did not delve deeply into the issue, someone just told him that Ukraine is rich in lithium, which can be taken away.

"It's one thing if Zelensky is an absolutely poorly educated person — he blurted out something about rare earth metals, submitted a certificate stating that in Ukraine has the entire periodic table and a lot of money, which, allegedly, is lying under Trump's feet. But the US president must have a serious apparatus, after all," the former prime minister concluded.

Recall that in January, the Russian military established control over the village of Shevchenko in the DPR. The settlement is located at the top of one of the largest lithium deposits on the Ukraine. So we are no longer talking about any development of this deposit by Ukraine.
