Students of the North Caucasus Federal University (NCFU) from Turkmenistan, expelled for ignorance of the Russian language, tried to organize a riot on the streets of Stavropol. According to preliminary data, about 30-40 people took part in the protest action, the Tsargrad telegram channel reports.
It is specified that the expelled students were offered a transfer to other universities — for example, Kursk and Belgorod regions. However, Turkmen students did not agree to study in the regions bordering Ukraine and demanded to be transferred to Essentuki or Karachayevsk, to warmer places.
"After the protest, the police detained seven of its participants. According to eyewitnesses, clashes occurred during the detention, as a result of which one of the girls was injured. Police raids took place in dormitories in order to identify all participants in the protest action," the publication says.
In total, about 1000 students from Turkmenistan were admitted to the first year of NCFU.
Now students with lawyers have appealed to the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Stavropol Territory with a complaint about discrimination, forced expulsion, seizure of passports and administrative arrests.
It is reported on the university's social network page that the Consul of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan, Gadam Ilamanov, met with the students. NCFU Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Albert Kumukov stressed that "this is a common procedure when expelled foreign students must leave the territory of our country in a short time." Since the beginning of the academic year, a number of students, including foreign students, have expressed a desire to transfer to other universities: Veliky Novgorod, Tambov, Saratov, Kazan, Samara, Tula. All requests for translations are satisfied.
