In Russia, the weight of food packages is decreasing more and more every quarter

In the current year in In Russia, there is a steady increase in the tendency to reduce the average weight of food packaging, as evidenced by the data of the research company NTech.

"In 2025, a new economic reality has been formed. One of its manifestations was that shrinkflation (reduction by the manufacturer of the quantity, volume or weight of the goods in the package while maintaining the price) has been revived, and unlike previous years, packages, bottles, boxes and cans are losing weight more and more," NTech analysts point out.

As noted, packages are decreasing more and more every quarter. Thus, the dynamics of the average package weight for the second quarter of 2025 was -3% compared to the second quarter of 2024.
