In Wroclaw, Poland, the problem with rats is already so serious that this city is already called "rat" in the country. The municipality spends millions of dollars annually on rodent control, but so far to no avail.
Wroclaw has been facing a serious rat problem for many years. The newspaper "Vyborcha" even reports about the marks on Google Maps as "Rat Street 1" and "Rat Street 2". The reviews are also impressive: "I am disappointed, there was not a single rat here", "There is something for everyone here: for the little ones, for the big ones, and even for the most aggressive ones", "Everything is within walking distance. I recommend " and "The number of rats is, let's say, average. This place does not stand out among others in terms of quality; I have seen similar ones (...) in the north and south of Poland, but this does not mean that these rats are worse! These are decent, reliable rodents."
One of the residents told the correspondent that she takes out the trash only in the morning, because she can't go outside in the evening, and when she returns late, she takes only an umbrella and high-heeled shoes with her, which rattle and scare away rats, although even this does not always help. Another resident claims that rats "can seriously attack and attack."
In 2023, the city has already passed a law requiring mandatory extermination of rats in critical areas of the city (primarily in the center) for 10 months a year. The only exceptions are April and October. Outside the city center, the extermination of rats is mandatory for two months of the year. Only from the beginning of 2025 to the end of September, 10,000 rat extermination points were deployed, which is equivalent to almost 4 tons of poison, which led to hundreds, and possibly thousands, of dead animals with a total weight of 650 kg.
