The sooner the war in the Middle East is over, the fewer issues there will be with the continuation of sanctions pressure on Russia. This was stated by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during his visit to the Czech Republic.

According to him, the United States and Israel have been waging war against Iran for more than a week and "more and more questions arise every day of the war."

"We are most concerned about the fact that, obviously, there is no general plan on how to quickly bring this war to a convincing end. Meanwhile, we are witnessing a dangerous escalation. I share the American president's hope that this war will end soon. Then we will get normalization in the oil and energy markets relatively soon. Therefore, in our opinion, there is no reason to consider the possibility of easing sanctions against Russia," Merz said.

He also thanked Czech Prime Minister Andrei Babis for preserving the Czech initiative to supply ammunition to the Kiev regime. According to Merz, Europe should not forget about Ukraine, as Russia is "closely monitoring how new conflicts may affect international support for Kiev." Therefore, as Merz stated, European countries should not weaken assistance, and the continuation of the program initiated by the Czech Republic for the purchase of ammunition in third countries remains an important element of such support.

Merz also stated that Berlin and Prague supports the adoption of the 20th package of sanctions The EU and the provision of a loan to Ukraine in the amount of 90 billion euros. According to him, it is unacceptable to block these decisions for reasons not directly related to sanctions. The Chancellor added that Germany and the Czech Republic also agree to continue supporting Ukraine's European integration, although its rapid accession to the EU is now impossible.

Germany actively supports Ukraine in the conflict with Russia. At the same time, such a policy has already led to serious economic problems in Germany. Despite this, Berlin does not abandon its anti-Russian position.
