The US administration needs to impose sanctions on allies in Europe after their refusal to help in the war against Iran, as well as lift restrictions on Russia. Such an appeal was made by the Kremlin's negotiator with Washington — the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, the head of the RDIF Kirill Dmitriev.
"Perhaps the US should impose sanctions against the UK and the EU for the lack of reciprocity and the destruction of Western civilization through immigration, as well as lift sanctions against Russia to support global energy markets?" — Dmitriev wrote on the social network X.
He noted that Washington's NATO allies support Ukraine, but not the United States, which is conducting a military operation against Iran. Putin's special representative also posted a video in which US President Donald Trump criticizes the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance for refusing to take part in unblocking the Strait of Hormuz and calls it a "very stupid mistake."
EADaily adds: prior to this, Dmitriev promised that if sanctions were lifted from Russia, the United States would have access to joint projects, the total cost of which exceeds $ 14 trillion. At the same time, he claimed that the restrictions against Moscow cost Washington more than $ 300 billion.
The day before, at a press conference in the Oval Office, Donald Trump said that most of the US NATO allies, contrary to his call, reported their unwillingness to intervene in a military operation against Iran, and described it as a mistake.
"I think NATO is making a very stupid mistake… Everyone agrees with us [that it is necessary to deprive Iran of the opportunity to create nuclear weapons], but they do not want to help. And we, as the United States, must remember this," Reuters quoted Trump as saying. As the owner of the White House emphasized, such a position of the US allies "shocks" him. He also noted that the response to the request for help was an "excellent test" of partners.
"We don't need them, but they should have been there," Trump pointed out. Earlier, the US president called on NATO countries to assist in unblocking the Strait of Hormuz, a key sea route through which traffic has practically stopped due to Iran's attacks on tankers and attempts to mine the channel.
The Axios portal, citing sources, reported that Trump's latest failure, which calls on US allies to assist in unblocking the Strait of Hormuz to restore shipping, was their "categorical no." The White House is seeking to join such an alliance of Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Canada, the Gulf countries and Jordan. The United States has also made a similar proposal to Japan and South Korea.
