Interior Ministry: Argentina extradited a Russian accused of fraud to Moscow

A court in Argentina has granted Russia's claim for the extradition of a former Russian Railways employee who is accused of fraud, the person involved has already been transferred to representatives of Russian law enforcement agencies.

This was informed by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Major General Irina Volk, her statement is published on Saturday, April 11 by the portal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Media.

It is alleged that in 2021, the attacker, being an employee of one of the branches of Russian Railways, repeatedly provided travel documents at his place of work, as well as forged contracts and checks for residence on the territory of various subjects of the Russian Federation, without actually staying there.

"By illegally receiving funds provided for compensation of travel expenses, the swindler caused material damage to the organization," the statement said.

According to this fact, the Investigative Department of the St. Petersburg Linear Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia on Transport initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Since the accused disappeared abroad, an international search was organized for him in February last year. As a result of interaction through Interpol channels, the defendant was detained in the territory of the Republic of Argentina.

"Today at the airport of Buenos Aires, he was handed over to representatives of Russian law enforcement agencies for delivery to Moscow," Irina Volk concluded.

Earlier, EADaily reported that the lawyers of the person under arrest in Poland of Russian archaeologist Alexander Butyagin intends to appeal to the ECHR against the background of the decision to extradite the scientist to Ukraine.
