The Victory Parade in honor of the 81st anniversary of the feat of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War began on Red Square in Moscow. Despite the changes in the format, the solemn procession retains its scale, symbolism and significance for the whole of Russia.

The Fifth Channel conducts a live broadcast of the festive procession.

The parade traditionally begins with the removal of the state flag of the Russian Federation and the Victory Banner, a sacred symbol hoisted over the Reichstag in 1945. After that, the Russian Defense Minister receives the military personnel, who in turn reports on readiness to the Supreme Commander-in-chief.

This year, the format of the event has been partially adjusted to take into account the current operational situation. According to the Ministry of Defense, a column of military equipment, as well as pupils of Suvorov and Nakhimov schools and cadet corps do not participate in the parade.

The parade is based on a walking column of military personnel. Units of various types and branches of the Armed Forces of Russia, as well as cadets of military universities, are passing through Red Square. The solemn formation reflects the continuity of generations and the readiness of the army to carry out tasks to protect the country.

Special attention this year is paid to the extended broadcast. Viewers are shown not only the parade itself, but also the work of military personnel throughout the country. The broadcast shows units performing tasks in the zone of a special military operation, as well as calculations on combat duty — from Strategic Missile Forces up to Aerospace Forces and Navy.

The air program of the parade is preserved. Aerobatic team planes pass over Red Square, and in the final, Su-25 attack aircraft will paint the sky in the colors of the Russian flag.

The format of international participation has also changed this year. No official invitations were sent to foreign leaders, but a number of politicians expressed a desire to personally attend the parade. According to the Kremlin, the presence of the following guests was confirmed: President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, leader of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Thonglun Sisulit, Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, Supreme Ruler of Malaysia Sultan Ibrahim, Presidents of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev and Serbia Sinisha Karan. President of Abkhazia Badra Gunba, Chairman of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska Nenad Stevandic and chairman of the Union of Independent Social Democrats of Republika Srpska party Milorad Dodik will arrive with their spouses.
