The US State Department announced a reward of $ 10 million for hackers of the Russian special services who tried to take over the accounts of Western officials and journalists in the Signal and WhatsApp messengers. As stated in the statement of the Foreign Ministry, hackers managed to "compromise thousands of individual accounts" in instant messengers.

The State Department is ready to pay up to $ 10 million for information that will help establish the identity or whereabouts of members of two hacker groups allegedly linked to the FSB and Russian military intelligence. Allegedly, with the help of phishing, hackers allegedly tried to gain access to correspondence in the Signal and WhatsApp messengers of officials of the US government, the State Department, defense and national security agencies, their advisers and analysts; officials and diplomats of NATO countries; investigative journalists covering events in Russia, Ukraine and the sphere of international relations; researchers in the field of security and Russian politics; members of non-governmental organizations providing assistance to Ukraine.
