A suspect in a hit-and-run on participants of a gay pride parade in Berlin has been shot dead by police. This is reported by the German media.

According to Spiegel magazine, this happened in the Berlin district of Spandau.

"Spiegel, citing security officials, clarifies that this is Abdul B. (Ballut. — EADaily), a 21—year-old German citizen. There is no official confirmation of this information yet. According to the newspaper, the young man was hiding on the territory of a garden association in the Berlin district of Spandau. He attacked the police with a "stabbing weapon" when they tried to detain him, and the police officers had to open fire. Ballut was wounded and died of his injuries.

Bild notes that the police found the suspect thanks to information from his personal environment.

Recall, as a result of the attack, one woman was killed, and another 29 people were injured. The German Interior Ministry called the incident an Islamist terrorist act.

Earlier, Abdul Ballut was sentenced to 1 year and 10 months in prison for preparing an attack, later he was replaced with a suspended sentence, the prosecutor's office appealed this decision.
