A 17-year-old teenager suspected of attacking children in the British city of Southport has been charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a bladed weapon, Merseyside County police said.
"We can confirm that a 17-year-old male teenager ... has been charged with the murder of Bibi King, Elsie Dot Stancombe and Alice Dasilva Aguiar; ten counts of attempted murder; and possession of a bladed weapon," the official statement said.
It is noted that the name of the suspect cannot be disclosed by law, since he is a minor.
On Wednesday, Merseyside County police Chief Serena Kennedy said that British law enforcement officers detained three people during riots in the English city of Southport, which broke out after the murder of children.
Merseyside police on Monday reported a knife attack in the city of Southport. The attacker was sent to the police station for questioning. The police also confirmed that they do not associate the attack with terrorism.
The reaction of residents of Southport and London to the attack resulted in protests that escalated into clashes with the police and riots due to the dissemination of unconfirmed information that the suspect has refugee status. Law enforcement officers reported the detention of more than a hundred people in London.
