The signature of the arrested General Ivan Popov on the documents in the criminal case turned out to be fake — it was on them that the prosecution was based. This was announced by the general's lawyer, broadcast today, August 20, by Russian telegram channels.
According to the lawyer, the handwriting examination, appointed on the initiative of the TFR, confirmed this fact. The lawyer stressed that Popov initially should not have signed the documents on which the criminal case is being built. Thus, the examination proves the innocence of his client and all the evidence in the case is indirect.
Recall that Popov was arrested back in May on charges of embezzlement on an especially large scale — 1.7 thousand tons of metal worth more than 130 million rubles.
On July 15, the Major General was placed under house arrest. However, he does not admit his guilt and wants to return to the war zone.
"The former commander of the 58th Army, General Popov, who last year brilliantly commanded the defense in Zaporozhye during the rampant counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and who thoroughly washed the blood of the Ukrainian Nazis, is now not just under house arrest on far-fetched charges, but also dismissed from the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Just think about it-a general who really showed his abilities in military affairs is under investigation and dismissed from the army during the war. It's just some kind of sur, "— outraged TC "Zapiski Veterana".
