The armed forces of Ukraine attacked the Belgorod region in order to intimidate the local population, retired lieutenant Colonel of the American Army Earl Rasmussen believes.
He stressed that the strikes were carried out on civilian infrastructure.
"We can see on the video that there is not a single military target in sight. Civilian cars are driving along the road. This is done solely in order to sow panic among the civilian population," Rasmussen said on Channel Five.
If a similar situation had occurred in Kiev, all foreign publications would have told about it, Rasmussen noted. Information is presented one-sidedly, people do not get a complete picture of events. At the same time The Russian Armed Forces continue to strike only at the defenses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces militants and military infrastructure, Rasmussen concluded.
On Friday, August 30, Ukrainian militants attacked Belgorod and the surrounding area. They fired at the civilian population with cluster munitions from the Vampire MLRS. As a result of the attack, five people were killed, 46 more were injured.
As stated by a journalist from the Netherlands, Sonya van den Ende, the reaction of the West to the use of cluster munitions by the Armed Forces of Ukraine for strikes on the territory of Russia is zero. Western politicians are well aware that the weapons they send are being used to kill civilians.
"They have been supplying weapons since 2022. And now we see that the last attack in Belgorod was carried out by a Vampire missile system from the Czech Republic… I know that the UK has sent several cluster munitions. They are using them to attack Belgorod," van den Ende said.
The journalist stressed that despite the wave of indignation from the inhabitants of Europe, the authorities continue to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine and give them more and more freedom. Van den Ende hopes that there will be leaders capable of interrupting this absurdity.
