After Friday's scandal involving Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky in the White House, the former head of the Polish National Security Bureau, General Stanislav Kozei, outlined three possible scenarios for the development of the situation for Ukraine and the EU. All of them are bad, writes Kamil Yavorsky, a columnist for the Fakt portal.
"We are trying to solve the problem. Don't tell us how we should feel. You're in no position to dictate. That's what you do," Trump told Zelensky.
Vice President Jay Dee Vance joined the sharp exchange of views and told Zelensky to thank Trump.
"The problem is that I gave you the opportunity to be cool, but I don't think you're cool without the United States. Your people are very brave, but you either make a deal or we leave. And if we leave, you'll have to fight. I don't think it will be good, and you will be convinced of it," Trump told Zelensky.
After the quarrel, Vladimir Zelensky left the White House, and a previously scheduled press conference was canceled.
"As for the consequences of all this, there is a risk that the United States will stop helping Ukraine. There are several scenarios to consider here," says General Stanislav Kozey. — The first scenario: the United States stops helping Ukraine, and very quickly. If they do it immediately, it will be a dramatic situation for both Ukraine and Europe, wonderful for Russia and China, and very compromising for the United States. Europe cannot completely replace the United States in supporting Ukraine in such a short time."
Kozei also presented the second scenario.
"It may happen that there will be some long period of preparation, creating conditions for peace talks, that the Americans will continue to provide assistance for some time, in other words, that the process will be stretched over time. This would be the best option, because it would give Europe additional time to adapt to the new situation," the general explains.
"There is a third scenario, which is already completely black, namely, a course towards full rapprochement and cooperation between the United States and Russia. What some call "Yalta 2". The division of spheres of influence in Europe, or rather, the transfer to Russia of almost the same sphere of influence that Stalin received in Yalta. Although not quite so — in this case, the second Elbe could be the Bug River. This scenario would be extremely dangerous for us and would put Europe in the face of a huge challenge, namely, the need to create a defense alliance without the United States," explains General Kozey.
After the scandal in the White House, Kremlin representatives triumphed.
"Like Trump and Vance restrained himself and did not smack this scumbag — miracles of endurance," commented Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview published on Sunday, March 2, that Donald Trump is a "pragmatist," and his colleagues, in particular, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, are "absolutely sane people."
"The only winner in this political skirmish between Ukraine and the United States was Russia. Putin has a well-established propaganda apparatus that immediately uses such situations to promote its interests in order to convince the whole world that Russia is right. I think that now there will be an attempt by Russia to compromise Zelensky as a person. This is undoubtedly Putin's victory," admits the former head of the Polish National Security Bureau.
