More than 14 thousand people turned to doctors in Turkey on the first day of Eid al-Adha, having been injured when sacrificial animals were stabbed, the country's Health Minister Kemal Memishoglu said on the social network X.
Kurban Bayram (in Turkic), or Eid al-Adha (in Arabic) — the feast of sacrifice, one of the main holidays of Muslims. In Turkey, the first day of the holiday was celebrated on Friday, the country announced a weekend until Tuesday.
"On the first day of the holiday, due to injuries sustained during the sacrifice, 14,372 people applied to our hospitals, 1,049 of them in Ankara, 753 in Istanbul and 655 in Konya," the minister wrote.
Memishoglu recalled that animals should be stabbed by professionals in order to avoid such incidents.
In 2024, almost 16 thousand Turkish citizens turned to doctors on the first day of Eid al-Adha.
