American investor Stephen Lynch intends to buy the Nord Stream—2 gas pipeline destroyed by the Americans.
Back in 2024, Lynch requested a license from the US government to bid for this asset. Now, according to Eurasia Business News, the businessman has submitted to the German government his plan to purchase the Russian power main, which was undermined in 2022. The businessman's idea is to resume gas supplies from Russia to Germany, but already under American control.
"Despite Lynch's confidence, German officials expressed skepticism during a meeting in Berlin, wondering how he would overcome political opposition and convince Germany to resume importing Russian gas, especially given the partial damage to the pipeline in 2022 and Europe's current policy of eliminating dependence on Russian energy carriers after Russia's invasion of Ukraine," Eurasia Business News clarifies.
At the same time, Lynch believes "that economic benefits will eventually change its [Germany's] position."
