The Gambian-flagged tanker Kairos is in distress off the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria, which was attacked in late November by the Ukrainian Sea Baby drone off the coast of Turkey.
According to Bloomberg with reference to the Bulgarian Maritime Administration, this time the cause of the disaster was a storm, there are 10 people on board the ship, there is no threat to their lives.
As you know, after the attack of the Ukrainian drone in Turkey on November 28, the ship lost its course. According to the Bulgarian side, on December 3, the Turkish ship began towing it, but on December 5, the tanker anchored in the territorial waters of Bulgaria.
Why the ship ended up off the coast of Bulgaria is unclear. But it is known that a storm started in the area and the crew requested evacuation. However, the Bulgarian services could not start the rescue operation due to adverse weather conditions. It had to be postponed until the morning of December 6.
According to the newspaper, by now the rescue operation has begun, although the unrest at sea continues to complicate its conduct. Two tugs are involved.
Recall that on November 28 it became known that the tankers Kairos and Virat, en route to Novorossiysk, were attacked by drones. The Security Service of Ukraine assumed responsibility for the attacks on tankers.
Earlier, EADaily reported that due to the attacks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on tankers in the Black Sea, insurance on ships flying to the Black Sea has increased. Ukrainian companies that receive significant amounts of gasoline and diesel fuel by tankers will also have to pay more.
