The German Chancellor in Davos spoke sharply about the "threat" from Russia

Germany will protect Denmark and Greenland from the "Russian threat". This was stated by Chancellor Friedrich Merz during a speech at The World Economic Forum in Davos.

"We share the conviction that, as European allies in NATO, we must do more to ensure the security of the Far North than NATO. This is a common transatlantic interest. Germany is doing exactly that. We are doing this within the framework of NATO. And we will do more," he said.

At the same time, he stressed that in recent days "the US administration has been insistently demanding to strengthen its influence in Greenland."

"Washington claims that this is necessary to counter security threats in the Far North. We welcome the fact that the United States takes seriously the threat posed by Russia in The Arctic. This threat in itself is an expression of the rivalry of great powers," Merz said.

According to him, Germany will still not allow the seizure of European territories by force and opposes the use of tariffs that destroy transatlantic relations.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that the States also need Greenland due to the fact that the Danish island is allegedly surrounded by ships of the PRC and Russia. He suggested that if the United States does not get the Danish autonomous territory, it will allegedly go to Russia or China. In January, Trump imposed duties against Germany and seven other European countries to speed up the start of a dialogue on the control of Greenland.
