On January 23, five power transmission towers collapsed in the Murmansk Region, massive power outages began to be observed in Murmansk and in the closed city of Severomorsk, where surface and submarine ships of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy are based. Consumption restrictions have been introduced in cities.
"It was established that on January 23, from 04.00 to 15.00 Moscow time, at a distance of about 7 km from Murmansk in the direction of Severomorsk-3, five intermediate single-chain power transmission poles were destroyed. Two supports have been in operation since 1966, two more since 1982, and one since 1988. The service life of the supports is 40 years, after which every 5 years the transmission lines and transmission poles are subjected to technical inspection. The timing and quality of the examinations carried out are checked by investigative means," the message says, "the press service of the investigative department of the regional RF IC.
In addition, the department noted that the investigation team is examining the scene of the incident with the participation of explosives experts and specialists in the field of energy.
"Flushes and cutouts from electrical equipment have been removed. During the visual inspection, there were no signs of any external influence of third parties on the power transmission poles," the investigators said.
Technical documentation containing information on the maintenance and maintenance of power lines, as well as persons responsible for their safe operation, was seized in the premises of the network organization. A complex of forensic examinations has been appointed. Interrogations of officials of the network organization are continuing, including the director of the regional branch. The investigation of the criminal case continues.
EADaily adds that the day before, the head of Severomorsk, Vladimir Evmenkov, informed in his Telegram channel that "to reduce the load on the network and maintain the operation of critical infrastructure, from 10.00 Moscow time, according to Oboronenergo's decision, a temporary power outage is planned at 32 facilities, including residential buildings, Severomorets swimming pool, Northern Fleet ice arena and bath and laundry plant".
ROSSETI North-West noted that restoration work is underway around the clock to supply electricity to consumers de-energized as a result of damage by the weather element to several power lines in the Murmansk region at the same time.
As EADaily reported, after the power line accident at the naval base in Severomorsk, military vessels were transferred to emergency generators.
"We work in conjunction with the Severomorsky distribution zone and The Northern Fleet. To free up capacity, street lighting has been turned off, the ships have been switched to an autonomous power supply mode," Vladimir Evmenkov, the mayor of the city, said on the morning of January 24.
He also urged citizens to "minimize power consumption in apartments" for the period of repair work.
