Iran won the war, which turned into a disaster for the United States. This was stated in an interview with Al-Arabi al-Jadid by University of Chicago professor John Mearsheimer, IRNA news agency reports.

According to the expert, the Iranian war has become a major failure in the foreign policy of the United States and will entail serious negative economic and political consequences for Washington.

​"The Trump administration knows that it is playing a losing game in this war, and ending the war is extremely beneficial to the American president. It is difficult to predict the format of a possible agreement between Trump and Iran — if it is achieved at all — however, it is quite obvious that Iran has emerged the winner in this war," Mearsheimer said.

According to him, US President Donald Trump got involved in a war over Israel, which will eventually damage US-Israeli relations.

"The United States got involved in the conflict for the sake of Israel's interests, after which the war turned into a disaster. Many Americans will come to the conclusion that Israel deserves serious blame for this failure, which will ultimately damage American-Israeli relations," the professor emphasized.

As EADaily reported, the United States understood Tehran's logic, now it's time to decide whether they can gain its trust. This was stated on the social network by the speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

The United States failed to gain Iran's trust at the Islamabad talks, the speaker noted.
