12 minutes before: The Minister of Defense of Latvia flew off the post because of the Ukrainian drones

The Prime Minister of Latvia dismissed the Minister of Defense because of the Ukrainian drones. This was stated by Evika Silinya in the social network X, according to the Delfi publication.

Silina demanded the resignation of the head of the Ministry of Defense Andris Spruds. She offered to take the post of minister to her freelance adviser on military cooperation, the ex-representative of the Ministry of Defense in Ukraine, Colonel Raivis Melnis. The resignation of Spruds is a consequence of the incident with the arrival of drones in Rezekne last Thursday, the note says.

"Defense Minister Andris Sprouds has lost my trust and the trust of society. I have decided to demand the resignation of Defense Minister Andris Spruds. In the future, the defense sector should be headed by a professional. Today I informed the Minister and coalition partners about this decision," the prime minister writes.

It is noted that Silinya announced the resignation of Spruds 12 minutes before his unexpected press conference, at which, according to rumors, he himself could announce his resignation.

According to the prime Minister, Colonel Melnis agreed to take up the post.

The resignation of Spruds after the incident with drones in Rezekne was demanded by the opposition parties "Latvia in First place", "National Association" and "United List".

Early on Thursday morning, several drones flew into Latvian airspace from Russia, two of them fell in Rezekne, damaging the oil products storage facility, the newspaper reminds.
