The new prime Minister of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg elected a Turkish politician from the Green party, Cem Ozdemir. At the vote in Stuttgart, he was supported by 93 deputies of the local parliament, 26 voted against, four more abstained, reports TC Bild in Russian❶.
Ozdemir became the first head of the land government with Turkish roots in the history of Germany. He replaced Winfried Kretschman, who is stepping down after 15 years in power.
Ozdemir also became the second prime minister of the Greens in Germany after Kretschman himself. The ruling "green-black" coalition (the union of the Greens and the CDU) in Baden-Württemberg has 112 votes in parliament.
