He added that the White House is trying to hide a major cyber theft and, by shifting responsibility to others, get cheap political points.

At the end of July 2026, more than 30 water supply systems in Minnesota became the target of a coordinated cyber attack. Later, the FBI warned about incidents already in at least seven states. Hackers in some cases changed passwords and turned off systems, which led to manual controls and warnings about boiling water.

American investigators consider Iran as the main suspect, but there has not yet been an official FBI conclusion. Hackers used methods that were previously used by pro-Iranian groups. At the same time, experts admit that the attackers could disguise themselves as Iran.

At a cabinet meeting, President Trump bluntly stated that he did not consider Iran guilty, and blamed the Minnesota authorities, calling them "extremely incompetent," and mentioned Governor Tim Walz.

"We heard that there was a cyber attack in Minnesota, and they blame Iran for it. I don't think so. I blame Minnesota for this because they are extremely incompetent," Trump said.

The investigation is currently ongoing, and the White House has redirected questions about this to the FBI.
