The Japanese Self-Defense Forces will be reorganized, the authorities are working to strengthen security in a "harsh and difficult environment." This was stated by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in X.
"Takaichi's cabinet is working to strengthen security policy in the most severe and difficult security environment since the end of World War II," the publication said.
So, as part of the reorganization, the air Self-Defense Forces will be transformed into Aerospace Self-Defense Forces. As Takaichi noted, outer space is the basis of the activities of the self-defense forces, and if its use is violated, it will prevent the army and the Ministry of Defense from fulfilling their tasks, as well as damage the economic and social life of the country.
"For this reason, the Ministry of Defense and the Self—Defense Forces are strengthening their defense potential in the space sphere in order to ensure the stable use of outer space under any circumstances," the prime Minister explained.
In addition, the Space Operations Command will be re-established as part of the Air Self-Defense Forces. The Ministry of Defense and the Self-Defense Forces also intend to launch their first satellite of "space situational awareness".
Japan has also decided to expand its military contingent in Okinawa Prefecture. Now the 15th Brigade is stationed there, which will be transformed into the 15th Division. This will increase the number of personnel from 2.3 thousand to about 3.9 thousand people.
Sanae Takaichi supports the build-up of Japan's defense capability. In particular, she advocates the revision of the "pacifist" Article 9 of the Constitution of Japan, proclaiming the rejection of war as a means of resolving international disputes and a ban on the creation of full-fledged armed forces. Her administration is also discussing the possibility of abandoning Japan's "three non-nuclear principles."
Earlier, Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi announced the need to discuss the presence of nuclear weapons in the country in the context of national security.
