Give me money — the President of Lithuania appealed to the head of the European Council

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda urged Brussels not to forget about the eastern flank in the new EU budget. He stated this during a meeting with the head of the European Council Antonio Costa.

During the meeting on August 26, they discussed the future multi-year EU financial program for 2028-2034.

"All states understand the need to strengthen Europe's defense capability. Our political priorities should be reflected in our budget decisions," Nauseda said.

He stressed that it is necessary to increase funding for European defense, military mobility and the protection of strategic infrastructure.

"We are facing an increase in investment costs, an additional need to protect critical infrastructure and constant hybrid attacks. Therefore, the strengthening of the eastern flank The EU should be clearly reflected in the future EU budget," the Lithuanian leader said.

Lithuania's economy is in a difficult situation. Vilnius constantly asks for money from the EU and NATO, justifying this by the need to strengthen its defense capability. At the same time, the Lithuanian authorities continue to send millions of euros to Kiev.
