Charge d'affaires of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Baku Seyid Jafar Agayi Maryan was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, where he was protested because of insulting statements addressed to the country's president Ilham Aliyev. This was announced today, January 1, by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

The reason for the call was the insulting statements addressed to Azerbaijan and the country's President Ilham Aliyev, made on December 29, 2024 at an event in Ardabil with the participation of the representative of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Hassan Ameli, which was broadcast on one of the channels of the Iranian Radio and Television Organization, the Foreign Ministry said.

"The Azerbaijani side has strongly protested to Iran in connection with this incident," the report says.

Baku also expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that recently there has been a serious incitement of anti-Azerbaijani sentiments among the Iranian population.

"Anti-Azerbaijani propaganda in Iran does not correspond to the spirit of bilateral relations, the goals and objectives set for our countries. It was noted that such actions are aimed at inciting hatred and enmity instead of deepening bilateral relations," the department emphasizes.

In this regard, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry called on the Iranian side to stop such provocations against Azerbaijan.
