In the Botany Mall shopping center, a child's arm was torn off on an escalator. This is reported by the portal Е1.ги .
It happened on the evening of August 19th. The 2-year-old child was with his mother. According to eyewitnesses, the child's hand was pulled into the escalator and partially torn off, the mother screamed. People in the mall came to the rescue — they calmed the child's mother and brought everything they needed from the pharmacy.
"I went into the store. I hear Mom screaming. I ran out, I see a child standing without a hand. I put a tourniquet on him, then bandaged him up. We waited for an ambulance and got a hand. Everything is fine with the child, he did not lose consciousness — he held on until the last," said the man who applied a tourniquet to the victim.
According to Valery Gorelykh, the head of the press service of the Sverdlovsk headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, an ambulance arrived at the scene of the tragedy seven minutes after the incident was reported.
"The injured part of the arm was quickly put into ice by the doctors and, together with the baby, taken to the ninth city hospital of Yekaterinburg, where an operation to save the child is being carried out at this moment. The family, which was suddenly invaded by trouble, is prosperous, not registered, complete," he said.
Gorelykh added that the mother was at the mall with her two children, holding their hands, but was distracted for a second on the escalator.
A criminal case was opened in the Investigative Committee of the Sverdlovsk region on the fact of injury to a minor under Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (provision of services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life and health of consumers).
"During the investigation, all the circumstances are being clarified. Possible eyewitnesses, the management and staff of the shopping center are being identified and questioned, documentation on the maintenance of the escalator is being sought and studied,"the press service of the department said.
The severity of the harm to the child's health is also being clarified, and a proper legal assessment will be given to the incident based on the results of all the activities carried out.
