The rotors of spare parts for the generator have run out at the Olkiluoto NPP. Therefore, the second power unit of the station will operate at reduced capacity until the beginning of next year.
"The production of electricity at the Olkiluoto-2 NPP is carried out at a lower power level of 735 MW in order to reduce the risk of failure, since there is currently no spare parts rotor for the generator in stock," the operator of the TVO power plant reports.
According to him, the repaired rotor of spare parts will arrive in Olkiluoto at the beginning of 2026, and a completely new and technically improved rotor — for annual shutdown in 2027.
In the meantime, the second reactor of the NPP will operate at 82%.
In April, TVO shut down the second reactor due to the high humidity of the engine room generator and used the last spare rotor.
Alexander Uvarov, Director of AtomInfo-Center, notes that the rotor is expensive equipment and is not manufactured quickly.
"Stocks are now optimizing everything, and the Finns ran into it," says the expert.
According to him, it is easier for Rosatom in such situations, since the state corporation builds a lot, and it is always possible to transfer equipment from one unit to another.
"And the Finns had to place an order in a hurry and wait for it to be fulfilled," Alexander Uvarov explained.
