Explosions in the capital of Venezuela: The United States may hit military bases in Caracas

Explosions are thundering in the capital of Venezuela.

"Residents of Caracas reported loud explosions, low-flying airplanes and sirens sounded in the early hours of January 3 at 2:00 local time. Videos circulating on social media show flashes and columns of smoke in several places in the Venezuelan capital. Moreover, the explosions were strong enough to shake windows and cause short-term power outages in areas such as 23 de Enero and near the La Carlota airbase," the British group Crown Intelligence Group writes on Twitter.

They suggested that the targets could be military facilities such as La Carlota or the surroundings of the Miraflores Palace.

The group posted videos from social networks and reported that explosions were visible in at least six places.

"Official confirmation from the Venezuelan authorities, sources in the United States or major news agencies has not yet been received. The incident occurred amid escalating tensions following Trump's announcement of a blockade and recognition of the Maduro regime as a foreign terrorist organization," the Crown Intelligence Group writes.
