At the request of the US government, the UK assisted in the seizure of the Russian tanker Mariner. This is reported by the Ministry of Defense of the kingdom.
According to the agency, the UK used reconnaissance aircraft to track the tanker "Mariner" and provided the US Air Force with its air bases.
"The Ministry of Defense has just confirmed that the UK today provided support in the seizure of the tanker Marinera, or Bella-1. The operation at sea included the RFA Tideforce ship (tanker tanker as part of the British Navy. - EADaily), while the RAF provided air surveillance support," Sky News TV channel reports.
The ministry added that the support from the UK is "fully consistent with international law."
"Today, the British armed forces showed skill and professionalism in support of the successful interception by the Americans of the Bella-1 vessel en route to Russia. This action was part of a global effort to combat sanctions violations," said Defense Secretary John Healy.
As reported by EADaily, the US military boarded the tanker Marinera (Bella-1) before the arrival of the Russian submarine. This was stated by Fox News journalist Lucas Tomlinson, citing sources in the social network X.
Recall, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Transport published a statement about the detention of the Mariner ship and another tanker flying the flags of Russia in the Atlantic Ocean by American commandos.
